What kind of works benefit from proofreading?

Any kind of written word can benefit from the eyes of a professional proofreader: a restaurant menu, an employment application, a personal statement for college admissions, a business flyer, an academic paper, a technical manual for your employees, or an ad campaign.
Hiring a proofreader can save your reputation from costly and embarrassing mistakes. While grammar computer applications and artificial intelligence (AI) can provide a certain level of confidence with generating copy, a seasoned human proofreader can find mistakes that computer programs will inevitably miss.
As a seasoned proofreader, I often find myself catching mistakes in every day life, from billboards to store signs, errors abound. Some mistakes funny while others are embarrassing, but I am sure that regardless of the error, companies and individuals would rather have their message properly received than induce a snicker of laughter from their audience.
